Broiled Ruby Red Grapefruit: A Surprise Treat

Tonight's dessert was a surprise.

We had red grapefruits on hand, so I decided to try something I saw on Pinterest. I have seen, and chuckled, at the Pinterest-fails, and wondered if this would be one as well. Camera in hand,  I decided to give this dessert a try for myself.

Broiled Ruby Red Grapefruit

  • One grapefruit, red or white...your choice. I prefer red...they're sweeter.
  • Brown sugar

That's it... SO easy!
  • Preheat your broiler.
  • Slice your grapefruit into two halves and place on a foiled baking sheet.
  • Using a knife, rim the grapefruit and section the wedges. It will be easier to scoop out when it's done.
  • Sprinkle with brown sugar.
  • Broil 3-5 minutes. It will get brown and crusty, depending on how much juice rises to the top and how much sugar you put on top. Enjoy!
  • When I do it again, I think I will brush the tops with aged, flavored balsamic vinegar. I think the flavor contrast will be fabulous.

These were super easy and just sweet enough. I will definitely be making these again....maybe on the grill this summer.

Have you grilled or broiled fruit? What did you think?

  1. This sounds like it would be great! I like grapefruit but cannot eat too much of it by itself because it's so bitter but this is something I've got to try. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Chelsea~thanks for your visit. It is delicious. I prefer the red grapefruit to the white, because the white are too bitter for me. Try the red...with the sugar on top, it's delicious. Thanks again!

  3. Yum! I love grapefruit. The hardest part for me is trying to get them to stop wobbling all around on the baking sheet. Thanks for linking up!

    1. Hi Amanda! You can slice a bit off the bottom of the grapefruit to level it. That way, it won't tip over. :-) Thanks so much for stopping by and for the opportunity to link up. :-)

  4. Unique and interesting Post Kelly. The broiled grapefruit sounds like it was really good and intensified the tart sweet flavors using heat and brown sugar, I will be interested to hear how the flavors fare grilled too. I love your idea on trying it with a balsamic vinegar too, thanks for sharing, I'll give it a try.
