Tio's Garden: Pining for Spring

My uncle, in Spain, has the best garden. He can grow anything. My uncle, like many Galicians, grows food, not lawn.

After this long New England winter, I have been pining for Spring and warmer, sunny days and thinking about Tio's garden.

If it's not spring where you are, and even if it is, enjoy the simple beauty of his well-cared-for garden.

This is Luna. That face...

Some of his bees.

I love the grapevines.

Many varieties of apples

Kiwis...in Spain

Lemons

And limes.

Figs...not ready yet, but oh so good when they are.

Oranges

And so many pretty flowers.

Pears

Do you have a garden at your home? If so, what is your favorite part?

  3. His garden is amazing, and your post today doesn't help me with accepting this grey day. Although, it is supposed to warm up to 60 degrees. But, I do miss sunshine and plants.

  5. I would love nothing more than a house with a yard so I could have a garden.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos. They are very hopeful images.

    Spring will return. : )

    Eventually.

  7. Gorgeous! I'd love to grow so many things. We don't really have a good spot for it right now. Where there is yard, there is no sun. Where there's no yard, there's sun.

  8. What an amazing garden! We just built a greenhouse for our garden this Spring/Summer. I love the fact that your uncle keeps bees as well. That's something I'd love to learn!

  9. He can grow anything. I don't have pictures, but there are also potatoes, kale, onions, carrots, strawberries and wheat...so much. He has a green thumb, for sure.

  10. We have space too, but traveling in the summer leaves our harvest to the animals. Someday, we'll grow food. Until then, we'll shop at and support our local farms.

  18. Incredible garden! Your pictures make me feel warm already! I tried a garden last spring and it appears that my gardening abilities only extend to potted plants at work. Maybe I'll try to grow tomatoes at my desk this year... ;)

  19. I miss having a garden! There's something so nice about stepping outside our door and grabbing some herbs or veggies for a meal. I've never had fresh figs! Love it when you feature some of Spain life :)
