Spring Cleaning...Body and Soul

Daylight savings time has begun and Spring is finally within reach. Many of us, including yours truly, are suffering from snow and cold fatigue and a marked vitamin D deficiency. But we're tough here in the Northeast. We know our winters can be long, and we savor every glorious sunny day above freezing.

Yesterday's 50+ degree weather inspired some of us to abandon our parkas in the car and venture out in sweatshirts and light jackets, while others donned their shorts and topsiders for the first time in 2014.

Not me.

But, I did wake up this morning with renewed optimism that Spring will, indeed, show her face again. And this girl wants to be ready to greet her with a sense of readiness in body and soul.

Here's my plan.

1. Goodbye winter. There is joy in packing up the heaviest of my winter clothes: snow pants, hats, mittens, and my heaviest, woolliest sweaters and turtlenecks. Goodbye winter. You're off to summer in the attic.
2. Try something new. Build a repertoire of spring-inspired recipes that I want to try. Pinterest is a goldmine of ideas. I love to build a board and pin my favorites. Sometimes, I search by ingredient, and other times, I search by season. My plan is to try one new recipe a week.

If fashion is your thing, create a board with outfits and color palates you would like to try or accessories you want to add. Or, my favorite...style icons you would love to emulate. Who is yours?

3. Soak in the light. Now that DST has arrived, after dinner walks are a reality. And, as the temperature warms, there is no excuse for hibernation. Time to move my mass.

4. Live in the color of the season. I love flowers. I always have. This spring, I want to fill my living space and my workspace with the best Nature has to offer. Whether it's a flowering plant or a lovely bouquet from Trader Joe's, flowers will paint the landscape of my life.

5. Start a good habit. Spring is about rebirth and renewal. Finding a healthy habit to start sounds like a great way to renew, body and soul. Whether it's a gratitude journal, drinking more water, starting a new savings plan, trying a new workout, or adding a new fruit or vegetable to my diet every week, focusing on something good...something positive or grounded in nature...will help me stay connected to what is important.

I'm ready for you, Spring.

How about you? How do you mark the change of seasons? What is something you're looking forward to this spring?

    1. Thanks, Peggy! I love flowers. Anything that reminds me of warmer, sunny days ahead is welcomed respite from the polar vortex that has overstayed its welcome this winter. I hope spring is knocking on your door one day soon as well, if not already. :-)

    1. Thanks, Jenna! I need to ready myself for each coming season. It celebrates the season and gives me goals to accomplish. And then, I bid it goodbye with closure and excitement for what's to come. Thanks so much for stopping by. :-) Have a great weekend!

  7. Great ideas to welcome Spring! I especially like the "move my mass" idea. I have a poodle who's been cooped up all winter, so it's a joy to be able to take him on after-dinner walks again.

Thanks for stopping by Hump Day Happenings!

  8. Thanks, Kelly, for your motivational post. I well remember the winters I spent in the Northeast, and the Midwest isn't much easier. You've inspired me to refresh and renew, and make the most of the longer days!

    1. Hi Sheri,
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your feedback. Longer days are the best part of spring. And as spring moves into summer, it's that late day warmth and rich tone to the sky that where the best memories are made...at least for me. Enjoy your spring refreshing and renewal. I am relishing it here too and excitedly awaiting the warmer days. Thanks again!
